Access to pre-natal care is a significant issue for women in the Flatbush, Bedford Stuyvesant and Brownsville communities.  Premature births, a key driver of infant mortality, for the communities we serve are higher than the Brooklyn and New York City averages.   The pre-term birth rate in Brownsville is the second highest in NYC, and the infant mortality rates for Flatbush, Bedford Stuyvesant and Brownsville are higher than both the borough and city rates.

In 2021, the United Health Foundation provided CAMBA with a significant three-year grant to address this issue.   This partnership enables the creation of a new program that delivers on-site prenatal and postnatal support services for approximately 500 under served, high-risk women per year.  Services include a mobile health care van, case management, community health workers, and birth and post-partum doulas. Our partnership is expected to reduce maternal morbidity and improve child health outcomes for these communities.

Please join us on April 14th as we discuss these issues, and methods to improve Black Maternal and Infant Health.
