Joanne M. Oplustil has been CAMBA’s President and Chief Executive Officer for nearly 35 years. During her tenure, she has transformed the agency from a small merchants’ block association, with an annual budget of only $50,000, to one of Brooklyn’s leading community-based social service agencies. Today, CAMBA has a budget of nearly $140 million, a staff of over 1,700 employees, and over 160 programs in the areas of Economic Development, Education and Youth Development, Family Support,Health, Housing, and Legal Services.In her tenure, Ms. Oplustil has raised over $1 billion in support of CAMBA. In 2005, she incorporated the affiliated affordable housing development corporation, CAMBA Housing Ventures(CHV). To date, CHV has created and/or partnered on 1,529 units, representing over $524 million in public/private investment. Prior to joining CAMBA, Ms. Oplustil spent eight years in Tanzania in East Africa as the Director of Educational and Health Development for the Katumba and Ulyankulu Refugee Camps.In this role, she assisted in creating health and day care centers, schools, and libraries. A native of the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, she has two Masters Degrees–one in Economics and one in Health Care Policy and Administration–from Brooklyn College.
